My heart is broken. We loss a great man, a great father, a great husband, compassionate and a loving human being. The Oyedepo family have been a family friend of ours Adeniran family since I was a child. Daddy has shown my family tremendous love and support. He was someone families go to in time of need and support. And he was always there with helping hands.
I go to know this incredible man even deeper in 1987, when he allowed me to move in with his family after my family left for a foreign land. Living under the same roof, it allowed me to see what a wonderful and incredible family man he was. He took me in has one of his and with open arms. He worked extremely hard to support his family and extended family members. We spent a lot of time together on the farm. I looked forward to those times. It was a bonding moment between us his kids and daddy. Roasting yams and maize with daddy, those were special moments. Sitting around the fire in a circle talking and joking amongst ourselves shows a softer and tender side of daddy. These are moments will cherish till my dying day.
He was a true servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. He preached and lived by the Bible. I always look forward to when daddy has to preach at church. He uses short stories to captivate his congregation/audience and to get his points across. And above all he uses short choruses/songs and dance moves has his opening them. Watching him dance was a treat and a blessing. I learn to dance watching him dance. I pretty much copied his dance moves. In our house, God was first. And nightly prayer meeting was mandatory. He genuinely and truly loved the Lord.

Daddy, so many things have happened since you were called away, so many things to share with you had been left to stay in my mind, as there’s no one to share it with.
Gone are the days we used to share, in my heart you are always there, the gate of memories will never close, I miss you more than anyone knows.
You Came, you saw and you conquered.
I thank God for the privilege to be one of your son because you posses alot of characters that is worthy of emulation. I admire your wisdom because anywhere you speak there will be unity, one of your good strength is the ability to canvas.
My dad and I share alot of good memories, I remember as a young lad, when we used to ride in your Peugeot 505 to drop us in school, you usually told me some good stories about morals, which one of it is the “OBEDIENT CHILD” which I have taken to be my watchword.
I thank God for a good life well spent, because you fought a good fight of faith. Daddy, though death is inevitable and certain but we would still have loved to have you around, I strongly believe you are in a good place and resting in the bosom of your Lord. I remember our last conversation at your residence in Ilorin a week before you were called home and it was all about love and I promised all will be done accordingly.
Daddy you will be remembered as a loving and affectionate father. We will forever cherish your memories and hope that our ever loving mother will see through this difficult time of parting. When the mirror is broken you longer see your image. On that dreadful day 30th August,2021 that you departed this world to join the saints it has not been same again for me. Daddy you were the mirror at which I looked at myself and now that you are gone my life is empty that I feel it in my soul. My solace is the fact that you live a righteous life. Every moments of your life is like a book on a parth towards heavenly bless. Daddy when I close my eyes the image of you is all I see……. The summary of our togetherness from cradle to your exit lingers on my mind. It’s a memory that even death cannot erase. Your departure has made me broken and transformed me into a man. Not by gender but by willingness to do what great men do knowing that death is the end of every mortal. The transformation that life is vain and everything in it is vanity. This death won’t separate us as I would grow old and exit just like you did and meet again to continue as farther and son. Then my children also would pay tribute to me like I am doing today to your bless memory. Rest in the lord true soldier of faith, aka YOUNG SHALL GROW.
It’s with great awe that I received the death of Pa Oyedepo; an ever-smiling and jovial personality. Your sermon and eloquent knowledge of the Holy Book would not be forgotten. Your dimensions of presenting the Message was different from others. Never waste time; direct, crisp and meaningful sermons you were known for. Baptist Church Minna would never forget you in Church accomplishments and settling family matters. You were very close to the Akande’s (my sister) family. I remember vividly that there was no function of ours that Mama would not attend. We would miss you greatly. May good God comfort mama, children and grandchildren. Baba Oyedepo sun re, odigba, otun darin na ko, odoju alaa. Continue to rest at the blossom of the Almighty God.
It is a shock but with great submission to the will of the Almighty. I sincerely condole with every member of this great family. I never met Baba personally, but I heard so much good reports about him from his son Mr Wole, a very good colleague. Lately I have learnt that life is transient and every one is only an actor on the stage of life. Hence our daily actions count either positively or negatively. We never know how much impact we have had on people until we exit the earth.
Baba you came, you saw you conquered. Though painful but the soul always returns to the maker. The Lord has thought it wise that you return home now, it is my prayer that those of us who you have left behind will follow in your unwavering example of service to the Almighty God.
I pray for God’s comfort and encouragement for all you left behind.
Keep resting baba in the bosom of the Almighty God until the resurrection morning.
TRIBUTE TO MY BELOVED HUSBAND (Deacon John Ayantunde Oyedepo)
His first approached to me was in 1961, when I was mourning my mother’s death. There was no reply to his request until 1962 when I was about to overcome the death of my mother. He made a promise to take up the roles of my parents because my father died in 1955. We got married in 1969. My husband was a man of his words, he played very well the roles of my parents as promised. He was a loving husband who never made a mistake one day to either slap or beat me and he did not believed in third party for conflict resolution. He was a comforter who was always ready to apologize even when he is not at fault, with peaceful choruses for peace to reign in the family. He was a loving father to his children,he cherished education and he prefered to starved himself so that his children school fees can be paid. He did not believed in beating children but believe in educating them morally and religiously, he also taught them on how to love, accommodate people and to be hospitable. A very hard working and honest husband, his black has never turned to white. He served his God to the end of his life and he was known to be an integrity man. Though I can’t write all his attributed, qualities and my experiences with him but his deeds will ever remain in my memory for ever. Therefore, I give glory to God almighty because he did not died because of financial constraints but he died because he had accomplished his raced on earth (2Timothy 4:7). I use this forum to appreciate God almighty who has touched the minds of people to assist us prayerfully, physically, morally and financially when my darling husband was hospitalized. People are too numerous to be mentioned here but my prayers is that the Lord who says in Acts 20 : 35b that ” there is more blessings in giving than receiving” will definitely rewards you all with abundant blessings, peace, Joy and His perfect health in Jesus name. When it came time to write about people’s obituary, “I don’t understand why people do a resumé for an obituary. It never captures the spirit of the person. Our uncle, daddy Deacon John Oyedepo had such a big spirit. He had such a big personality. And I didn’t think listing where he went to work, Church and his resumé would do him justice. I liked the idea of setting it up as kind of a contrast where at first you think it’ll be a pretentious obituary — everyone’s great when they die in an obituary — and then I tried to use what would have been his sense of humor to describe our daddy. And clearly it worked. I was pleased with it.”
Daddy was so much more to me than a in-law. He was the mentor and father I always wanted whilst going up under his watch. When he passed, I felt as though the very ground had crumbled away underneath my feet. But then I remembered his words whilst conversing on phone or in person for this very day and even after his death, I realized he was still being a father to me. His words restored my equilibrium and placed me once more on firm ground, the same way he did when I meet him, to be precise (1983)
Daddy gave everything he had to those that he came across. He never held back. He taught me how to be the very best person I can be, and I will never let you down. Thanks, Deacon. May you rest in peace.
